This is the place to come when you need something and do not have the time to browse many stores. If you can not find your supplies here, you can probably get along without it. Fortunately, you will not have to, often. As more of old lore and supplies for the knowledgeable practitioner are being forgotten or hard to find, there are fewer sources. We take pride as being a site where those who know can find supplies and those who do not and are seeking can find what they can learn.

Spirit Tomes and Treasures opened in 1997, on April Fools Day. The owners were frustrated and upset that in the large metropolitan area like Chicago there were few New Age metaphysical stores at the time that carried the esoteric supplies that our mothers and grandmothers had never heard of, but we needed and wanted. When visiting many other areas of the country, we found the same. Visitors to the store and friends across the country had also expressed a concern.

So, if you live in or around Chicago - or will be traveling through - we invite you to visit the brick and mortar store where you will find many of the things we feature in our on-line store and that we ourselves were searching for many years ago.

Now, on a slightly different train of thought, we are also in the midst of a battle on a different front. You may have read or heard about how the bigbox chain stores are replacing the smaller, independent merchants like us. (Remember your small, independent drug store?) The independent stores are a symbol of our open society and maintain a diversity of information and ideas. As New Age and Metaphysical is becoming more mainstream, chain stores are moving into and are able to offer high volume and discounts on selected items. Their emphasis on the lowest common denominator prevents them from supporting products that may not sell in massive amounts. The independent retailer can also expose seekers to new ideas. Also, many chains refuse to carry items they perceive as "controversial". We see this as an infringement of free speech. Or they only carry things because it is “in” today, (but "out" tomorrow).

We need your support if you believe in keeping independents alive. We urge you to think globally and shop locally! Support your local metaphysical and New Age stores first, but if at a store in your town you can not find everything you need.... Well, we just moved into your neighborhood via the Internet Highway and the OPEN sign is on.
